Mumbai: A case has been registered against three unidentified individuals in connection with the firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening. Police have formed 15 teams to identify and arrest the assailants, while the Maharashtra government has assured the actor and his family of support.

According to Mumbai Police, the FIR has been registered under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act. The investigation is underway, and further details are awaited.

The incident occurred at around 7 pm as Shroff was leaving a football club in his car. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said the 36-year-old actor escaped without any gunshot injuries, while his driver and an autorickshaw driver sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.

The actor’s driver, identified as Firdaus, was reportedly struck by bullets, while the other injured person was identified only by the surname Chauhan. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

A viral video purportedly showing an unidentified person opening fire at the actor’s car has circulated on social media. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to establish the identities and number of assailants. A forensic team has also visited the scene to collect ballistic evidence, inspect the vehicle and determine the number of rounds fired.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack in a viral social media post. However, police have yet to verify the authenticity of the claim.

Following the incident, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff’s residence on Sunday night to enquire about his well-being and assure the family of the state government’s support. Shroff’s mother, Ayesha Shroff, was also present.

Photographs from the meeting showed the actor with dressings on his shoulder and chest and a bandage on his right arm. Speaking to reporters afterwards, Shinde said Shroff had sustained injuries to his hand from gunpowder and shards of glass.

“This is a major incident... five rounds were fired, but fortunately, he was safe. His driver sustained injuries, and the incident is condemnable,” Shinde said, adding that the actor and his mother were shaken by the incident.

Shinde said the government would take the necessary steps to ensure the family’s safety and would not tolerate threats or attempts to intimidate public figures.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also spoke to Shroff over the phone and assured him that the accused would be traced soon, according to the Chief Minister’s Office. Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, sought details from Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti and directed the police to expedite the investigation and take strict action against those responsible.

The Opposition, meanwhile, alleged that Fadnavis had failed to maintain law and order in the state.

Shroff, born Jai Hemant Shroff on March 2, 1990, made his Bollywood debut with Heropanti in 2014. He subsequently starred in films including Baaghi, Baaghi 2 and War. A martial artist who holds a fifth-degree black belt in Taekwondo, he also co-founded Matrix Fight Night, an Indian mixed martial arts promotion, in 2019.
